Today I had the opportunity to launch the Indus Education Foundation (IEF) in Sentul. The Government promised to set up a scholarship fund to assist Indian students at the tertiary level and today, we have been able to deliver on that promise with this public-private partnership. The Government also committed an initial grant of RM5 million, to be paid out by this year.
Recognising that Indian families place a lot of emphasis on education, I am confident the foundation will change the lives of many from the Indian community.
I believe that through education the social economic status of Malaysian Indians in the country will improve very significantly and I remain committed as prime minister to help all communities in an inclusive way, as I continue to chair the cabinet committee on Indian affairs until today.
