Serving the people of Kuala Terengganu

As you know, I have been a frequent traveler to Kuala Terengganu in the past weeks. It’s been hectic and tiring but yes, I have been on the ground in Kuala Terengganu, meeting with people in the villages in their homes, warungs and mosques. I have had numerous meet-the-people sessions at the mosques, schools and community halls. I am also glad to meet the locals comprising different races and communities over breakfast, in their homes and at their favourite coffee shops and eateries. These gatherings with people from all walks of life, different races and communities in their own surroundings reflect the Mesra Rakyat stress of the government. It is not just a slogan, but something that we believe in and practice. This by-election is not a referendum on any individual. It is to ensure a better future for the people of Terengganu.

On Wednesday, I had to take leave during a session with the local community in Kuala Terengganu and return to Kuala Lumpur for the tahlil marking the 33rd anniversary of my late father’s death. My mother (Tun Rahah Mohamed Noah) had told me that no matter how busy I would be, I must return to KL (for the tahlil). I had to fulfill my mother’s wishes even though it meant having to rush back.

I am happy to see that people of different races are working together on the ground in Kuala Terengganu for a common cause. This is a reflection of the harmony that exists in Malaysia. Something that we can be truly proud of.

In the run-up to the election in Kuala Terengganu, issues have been raised by the different political parties. But what is important is delivering on the promises. The government has a track record of delivering on its promises.

We have brought change and development and helped improve the lives of people, irrespective of race and religion. We will continue to deliver on our promises and bring development to the people – be it in the villages or the towns. We will also ensure that the people of Terengganu receive the funds that they deserve. Terengganu has the talent, expertise and the means to be a model state in terms of economic and social development. We will provide all the assistance needed for Terengganu to achieve its desired goals.
